Florida leading in Government Transparency

After reviewing the state and local government transparency findings from the Sunshine State Review, the James Madison Institute concludes “Florida continues to be a national leader in government transparency, and many citizens have reason to be pleased with the priority that their public officials are giving to proactive transparency”.

I just have to note that the Florida legislature and executive branch is dominated by Republicans.

Several years ago, a national non-profit organization, Sunshine Review, launched an extensive ongoing effort to measure just how well state and local governments were meeting basic transparency standards. Using a “Ten Point Transparency Checklist” developed by a number of open government experts, Sunshine Review began regularly assessing some 5,000 state and local government websites, beginning first at the county and school district levels.
