Is a Federal Ban on Hazing Necessary?

RATHER THAN PASSING A BALANCED BUDGET OR SECURING OUR BORDERS, DEMOCRATS WANT DC TO MICRO-MANAGE OUR LIVES!

U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D, FL-17) is leading an effort to place a federal ban on hazing.  The Tampa Bay Times quotes Wilson as saying the Florida Law, which makes hazing that results in serious bodily injury or death a felony, is obviously not enough to discourage longstanding and covert hazing practices that occur in marching bands and Greek organizations.

WHY DO DEMOCRATS ALWAYS RUN TO DC TO SOLVE PROBLEMS!

Her effort comes in the wake of the recent death of a FAMU band member. It is suspected that he was the victim of hazing. FAMU has a reputation of hazing issues.

While jumping in the middle of this hot headline may get her name in the newspaper and a guest seat on news shows, Rep. Frederica Wilson is doing NOTHING to actually help FAMU deal with its hazing problem.

DEMOCRATS LOVE TO WRITE LAWS, BUT ENFORCING THEM IS A DIFFERENT STORY!

If Frederica Wilson really wants to see justice served, she should focus on making sure that the state and local officials are able to enforce the state laws already in place by conducting a proper investigation. As a leader in the community, Rep. Wilson should publicly encourage FAMU staff and student body to cooperate with the independent investigators.

Rep. Frederica Wilson should also join Governor Rick Scott in recommending that the FAMU President step down from his post to allow for an unfettered investigation. Because FAMU has a reputation of hazing, investigators need to determine if FAMU officials knowingly allowed the unsafe environment of hazing to exist.

DEMOCRATS NEED TO RE-VISIT THE ROLE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND LET THE STATES MANAGE THEIR AFFAIRS!
